James Strauss

Brazilian flautist James Strauss has made a spectacular ascent in the world of classical music as a solo artist and champion of the concerto and chamber repertoire. Combining consummate technique with a rare sensitivity and depth, his performances are a perpetual source of awe - “The Lang Lang of the flute” says the Arizona Daily Star, "Un grand bravo! An authentic Latin representative of the French School of Flute" said Jean Pierre Rampal. Strauss’s repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary Masters in addition to endeavours in Brazilian and South American folk that perfectly reflects the many facets of his abilities. He is the first Brazilian flautist ever to be awarded a Diplôme de Concertiste by the École Normale de Musique de Paris and was one of the very few last disciples of French Master Jean-Pierre Rampal. Two great talents." Strauss has a special interest in new music and unconventional repertoire with many composers dedicating works to him, including the world premières of works by Philip Glass.
