INÊS & JAMES
Brazilian flautist James Strauss and Portuguese soprano Inês Simões blend their voices in a way that is both impressive and ethereal. The POEMA project was born in 2022 with a concert for the Vienna Peace Federation and a digital release for Universal Music Group, highlighting works from the last 100 years for this unusual pairing.
Brazilian flautist James Strauss has made a spectacular ascent in the world of classical music as a solo artist and champion of the concerto and chamber repertoire. Combining consummate technique with a rare sensitivity and depth, his performances are a perpetual source of awe - “The Lang Lang of the flute” says the Arizona Daily Star, "Un grand bravo! An authentic Latin representative of the French School of Flute" said Jean Pierre Rampal. He is the first Brazilian flautist ever to be awarded a Diplôme de Concertiste by the École Normale de Musique de Paris and was one of the very few last disciples of French Master Jean-Pierre Rampal. Strauss was a laureate in many international competitions such as the “UFAM – Concours International de Flûte”. "Simply a fabulous duet! This is an album to close your eyes, lie down and enjoy. Two great talents." Strauss has a special interest in new music and unconventional repertoire with many composers dedicating works to him, including the world premières of works by Philip Glass.
